The homepage as well as the checkout could be viable areas for the live chat feature to be available. By being on the homepage people can ask any questions they may have. At checkout they may also have questions.

It could be viable for a small business to use live chat as long as they are either willing to do the support themselves or can hire 1 or 2 people to do it. A small business could use it and just not have a 24/7 support like other companies.

As far as increasing sales Live Chat i think is very good for that. I know ive made purchases because of the live chat customer service that i received. As for traffic, i dont think it necessarily increases that.
